Cosmogull: Mummy and Daddy’s Cosmic Adventure is a rhyming picture book for tired grown-ups and curious little dreamers — a story where real-world parenting chaos meets a sprinkle of stardust and imagination.
When two weary parents take a much-needed break, Cosmogull — a space-soaring seagull with a twinkle in her eye — swoops in to lift their spirits and spark their sense of adventure. What starts as an escape from everyday noise becomes a reminder that magic is hiding inside the moments we often rush past.
Told in warm, flowing rhyme, this playful story celebrates the beautiful, messy rhythm of family life: the laughter, the noise, and the small flashes of wonder that make it all worthwhile.
It’s written from one parent’s perspective, but it speaks to everyone who has ever cared, loved, or needed a moment to breathe.
I wrote Cosmogull: Mummy and Daddy’s Cosmic Adventure after one of those proper long days — you know the ones. Noise everywhere, dinner drama, toothbrush battles — and by the time bedtime finally arrived, I felt like I’d completed the final boss battle.
When I sat down to read to my kids, I realised something: I didn’t just want a bedtime story to tick a box — I wanted one that rolled off the tongue, made them smile, and quietly said, “I love you… let’s wind things down.” Something that actually helped us shift gears.
That’s where this book began.
The rhyme and rhythm bring a bit of calm — the kind that helps everyone breathe again and think, okay… we survived today.
But I didn’t want the story to be too calm, because real family life isn’t like that.
So there are playful moments — gentle sounds, small surprises, bits kids can join in with if they’ve still got energy buzzing around. Some nights my kids act the whole thing out; other nights they’re half-asleep on my arm by page three. Both are fine. Both are real.
I wanted something that works either way — calm enough when they’re tired, lively enough when they’re not — and still brings everyone back together before bedtime.
By the final page, you get that little reset — a peaceful close to the day, ready for the next round of magic tomorrow.
And then, just as the lights go off…
This book is an ideal shared-read for classrooms, assemblies, and story corners. Children can chant, move, explore emotions, and talk about their own families — perfect for reading time, PSHE lessons, and imagination-led activities.
More than anything, Cosmogull: Mummy and Daddy’s Cosmic Adventure reminds us that there’s magic in the everyday moments — and sometimes it takes a seagull in space boots to help us see it again.

Jonathan Vaciannia is a South London dad of three whose home is filled with laughter, noise, and the kind of beautiful chaos that inspired Cosmogull: Mummy and Daddy’s Cosmic Adventure.
Between carrying scooters, handing out emergency snacks, listening to brand-new drum “performances,” tidying Lego kingdoms, and turning his kids into helicopters, Jonathan discovered the magic hiding inside everyday family life.
Cosmogull arrived in one of those whirlwind moments — a reminder that even on the busiest days, there’s always room for connection, calm, and a little sparkle.
When he’s not juggling dad duties, he’s usually dreaming up new adventures for Cosmogull or reading the same favourite bedtime stories for the tenth time — happily.
